Assemble the following tools prior to starting application:
Spray bottle (filled with clean water + a few drops of mild dish detergent)
Squeegee (plastic or felt-edge)
Cleaning cloth / Microfiber towels
Precision utility knife
Heat gun or hairdryer
Substrate Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the application area to eliminate grease, oil, wax, and dust. Ensure the panel is completely dry and free of debris.
Wet Lubrication Spray: Lightly mist the vehicle surface with the diluted soap-and-water solution. This prevents immediate adhesive tack and allows easy repositioning.
Positioning: Peel off the release liner from the 3M HIP reflective graphic, align it with the target panel, and lay it flat onto the wet surface.
Squeegee Water & Air Displacement: Using a squeegee with firm, overlapping strokes, sweep outward from the center to the edges to evacuate all water and trapped air bubbles.
Heat Conformance & Edge Trimming: Use a heat gun or hairdryer at a low temperature to gently soften the edges and corners, press them down firmly, and trim any excess film with a utility knife.
Curing Window: Allow the installed graphic to cure in a clean environment. Do not wash the vehicle, expose it to rain, or leave it in direct scorching sunlight for 24 hours post-installation to allow the adhesive layer to bond completely.
Issue | Primary Cause | Recommended Solution |
Sub-optimal Weather Conditions | Installation during extreme cold, direct scorching heat, or dusty/windy weather | Avoid installing in low temperatures, harsh direct sunlight, or dusty environments. |
Film Distortion / Reduced Reflection | Forcible pulling or over-stretching during installation | Do not forcibly pull or stretch the film, as it distorts the microprismatic optics and causes future delamination. |
Persistent Air Pockets | Incomplete water or air displacement during squeegeeing | Do not forcibly tear or peel cured film. Puncture the center of the air bubble with a fine needle tip and squeegee flat. |
