SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation) Brand Identity "Green Power for The Future"

When a brand identity moves from business cards and building facades onto wind turbine blades tens of meters long, a logo is no longer just a "mark" — it becomes a systems engineering project involving materials, printing, die-cutting and on-site installation. This case comes from a wind power project jointly advanced by SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation, one of China's five major power generation central SOEs) and Qinghai's clean energy sector. On the plateau wind farm, the turbine blades and nacelles now carry a giant green brand identity — we call it "Green Power for the Future": two sweeping green leaves interwoven with gray raster-gradient stripes, like the trail a blade leaves across the grassland sky. The graphic itself is the corporate identity of QNEI Group (Qinghai Clean Energy Industry Development Group).

1. Project Background: Brand Identity for a Central–Provincial SOE Cooperation Wind Project

SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation) is one of China's five major power generation central SOEs and a world-leading clean energy developer. QNEI Group is a large provincial state-owned enterprise wholly owned by Qinghai State-owned Assets Investment Company (Qinghai Guotou), officially inaugurated in Xining in December 2024, focused on integrated "wind-solar-hydro-thermal" and "generation-grid-load-storage" development. In January 2026, the two parties jointly established SPIC Qingyue Energy to develop large clean energy bases together — and this giant identity project is a vivid example of central and provincial SOEs working hand in hand across the clean energy industry.

As the project ramped up, the brand image needed to step out of office buildings and onto the work site. Wind turbine blades and nacelles are the most visible "billboards in the sky". This "Green Power for the Future" identity had to be reproduced at giant scale on the turbine surface, making the green development message clearly visible across the vast plateau wind farm.

2. Reading the Identity: Leaves, Raster Stripes and "Green Power for the Future"

The identity is built with distinctly wind-power DNA:

  • Two green leaves — shaped like the silhouette of turbine blades, gradient from fresh to deep green, symbolizing the endless vitality of clean energy;

  • Gray raster-gradient stripes — rows of fading horizontal lines, like the motion blur of spinning blades, or the "ripples" of green electricity flowing into the grid;

  • Open composition — light and airy, so when applied to the white blade or nacelle surface, the graphic merges with the product instead of looking intrusive.

Scaling a flat VI system up to engineering size multiplies every gradient and every curve transition — that is exactly what makes giant-format identity projects so demanding.

3. Four Technical Challenges of Bringing a Giant Logo to Life

3.1 Curved-surface decomposition: one leaf, sliced into dozens of segments

A wind turbine blade is a typical variable-curvature, twisted surface — no single full-size film can conform to it directly. Following the curvature of the blade surface, we decomposed the complete graphic into dozens of parallel diagonal segments. The width, arc and overlap edge of every segment were calculated individually, so the applied graphic reads as one continuous visual with no visible "splicing".

3.2 Material selection: 3M film built for the plateau environment

A wind farm site means intense UV, wide temperature swings, sand-laden wind and high-altitude wind load. This project used genuine 3M brand film as the printing and application substrate: its controlled extensibility conforms to curved surfaces, and its proven outdoor weathering system keeps the identity from fading, lifting or cracking under long-term UV exposure.

3.3 Large-format color consistency: gradients that never "break"

The hardest part of this identity is not the solid color — it is the gradient. The green travels from light to dark across multiple segments, and the gray raster stripes fade bar by bar within each segment. In segmented printing, any color drift between segments is exposed the moment the pieces are assembled. Through unified color management, same-batch continuous output and segment-by-segment color verification, we kept the gradient continuous from the first segment to the last.

3.4 Precision die-cutting and pre-kitting: less burden on the installation crew

All segments were die-cut, numbered and pre-assembled on the ground before leaving the factory. Each piece carries positioning marks, so field installers simply match each segment to its number — dramatically shortening high-altitude working time and reducing application errors.

4. What the Project Means

For everyone involved, this was a complete journey of a brand identity moving "from paper to wind farm". Central and provincial SOE cooperation projects enforce strict VI compliance — the color, proportion and clear space of the identity must be reproduced precisely, with zero tolerance for drift. For us, it was a chance to compress the full chain of VI interpretation — curved-surface decomposition — material engineering — large-format printing — precision die-cutting — on-site installation into a single project. A giant logo is not just "a logo printed bigger": it must withstand wind and sun in a real industrial environment, stand up to close inspection, and pass item-by-item review.

5. About Us

Mactape (MAC Labels) has been dedicated to industrial film and label converting for 16 years. As a 3M authorized converter and tesa partner, we serve safety labeling, wind power and electrical industry applications, fleet graphics, glass films and precision die-cutting, delivering end-to-end support from artwork processing and material selection to on-site installation.
